Story #1: The Tigers overcame a two goal deficit Monday night to extend their lead in the standings over the pesky Americans. Much like a paternal tiger, Jeff Skilly Skillman lead his pride from the depths of despair and willed them to victory with two goals. “He was like a charging tiger prowling out of his cave” said witness Troy Otto. The Captain spurred the first comeback win of the year for the black and gold. The Tigers peppered the Amerks goal all night and if not for a brilliant performance by goaltender Andrew Keila it could have been lopsided. Netting the game winning goal was heralded defenseman Mike Shepard. “This guy is so underated” commented Timmy Kimmel while on the Labatt Blue Party Deck. The win opens up a four point lead in the standings through two rotations.
Story #2: Boys…. don’t forget to bring your skates to the games. The Whalers verse Nordiques game only had one referee for the first period as chief zebra Kevin Ortbals forgot his wheels. Good on Mrs. Ortbals for driving up to Viking Arena and delivering the goods. Mrs. Ortbals wins the Player of the Night Award. Check your bags were not in Mites any more!
Story #3: Americans netminder Andrew Kelia had a heck of a night in the loss. “I don’t think the Americans touched the puck for the first eight minutes of the game” said savvy veteran Ryan Maff. The Tigers threw everything but the Christmas fruit cake at Keila and he shut the door early allowing Mr. Perfect Jack Serda and newly acquired sniper Tortuga Tim to snipe. Kimmel was stiffled on a close in tip, Bin was stopped on a breakaway and a quick snapper from the slot, Andy Femm was denied driving to the goal and super sniper extraordinaire Drago was thwarted. Story #4: Merry Christmas to all of my MNL brothers!
