Welcome to Another Season of Monday Night Lights
There are hockey leagues, and then there’s Monday Night Lights.
To an outsider, MNL looks like another beer league. Seven teams. Two sheets of ice. Players squeezing in a game after work before heading home to jobs, families, and responsibilities the next morning.
Anyone who has played here knows it’s much more than that.
Draft night has become one of the biggest events of the year. Captains spend weeks studying rosters, debating sleepers, and convincing themselves they’ve built a championship team. Every pick gets analyzed, every questionable selection gets discussed in the group chat, and by the end of the night every team believes they won the draft.
Then the puck drops.
That’s when preseason hype meets reality.
The first-round superstar has an off night. A late-round pick becomes one of the biggest steals of the season. Chemistry proves just as valuable as talent, and every Monday the standings seem to tell a different story.
What truly separates MNL isn’t just the hockey—it’s the people.
Panty somehow convinces everyone that drafting his friends is simply taking the “best player available.” Troy treats every conversation with a referee like a courtroom case. Todd probably knows the betting odds before the schedule is released. Hetes can turn any penalty into a discussion on advanced analytics, while Bin somehow manages to be everyone’s favorite teammate.
Every team has its own identity.
Every captain has a different philosophy.
Every player has something to prove.
No matter what happened on draft night, everyone starts the season with the same record.

Letter from the Commissioner
Welcome back to another season of Monday Night Lights.
Every year I’m reminded how fortunate we are to have a league filled with people who genuinely enjoy competing with—and against—one another. While we all want to win, MNL has always been about more than the standings. It’s about the friendships, the competition, and giving everyone something to look forward to every Monday night.
I’d like to thank our GMs for the time they invest in preparing for draft night and building competitive teams. Some rely on statistics, others trust chemistry, and a few somehow end up drafting half of last year’s friend group. Whatever the strategy, every captain believes they found the steal of the draft.
A special thank you also goes to our officials, scorekeepers, volunteers, and everyone who helps make this league possible. Your time and commitment are what keep MNL running.
As we begin another season, I ask everyone to compete hard, respect your opponents, respect the officials, and remember that the friendships built here will outlast any championship.

Contender
The standard hasn’t changed—if you want to win the Cup, you’ll probably have to go through the North Stars.

Success brings expectations, and no team understands that better than the North Stars. After another strong regular season, they’re once again entering the year with one of the deepest and most experienced rosters in Monday Night Lights. While every season presents new challenges, this group has built a reputation for consistently finding itself in the championship conversation.
Knybel gives the North Stars a player capable of taking over a game whenever he’s on the ice. Whether he’s finishing plays or creating opportunities for teammates, opponents have to account for him every shift. Behind him is a veteran supporting cast that knows exactly how to play winning hockey. M. LePoudre remains one of the league’s premier defensemen, capable of controlling the pace from the back end, while Podolan and Serda provide the kind of dependable play that every contender needs.
The personality of this team is just as recognizable as its talent. Troy Otto’s competitiveness is second to none, and there’s a good chance the referees will know his voice before the first period is over. Pearcy will always have an opinion on systems, line combinations, or why a play should have gone differently, but teammates will gladly take that hockey IQ if it helps them win games. Add in a player like Eidt, who has the potential to become one of this season’s biggest value picks, and the North Stars once again look like one of the league’s most complete teams.
There isn’t much mystery surrounding this group. They have elite talent, experienced leadership, reliable goaltending in Goemaere, and enough depth to survive the inevitable ups and downs of a long season. The challenge won’t be proving they’re good—it’ll be living up to the standard they’ve created for themselves.
X-Factor: Eidt
Championship teams usually get unexpected contributions somewhere in the lineup. If Eidt becomes a consistent secondary scorer, the North Stars become even more dangerous.

If championships are won through depth, the Nordiques may have built the blueprint.

Every draft, people around the league seem to make the same joke: somehow the Nordiques always end up with half of their friends. Whether it’s luck, strategy, or just coincidence, one thing is certain—it keeps producing competitive hockey teams. This year’s roster may be the best example yet.
Unlike some contenders that lean heavily on one or two stars, the Nordiques don’t have to. Antioch gives them a player capable of changing a game offensively, but what stands out is how complete the lineup looks from top to bottom. There isn’t an obvious matchup for opponents to exploit, and every line should be capable of contributing throughout the season.
The defense could quietly become one of the league’s best. Miller and E. LePoudre provide a steady, experienced pairing that won’t make life easy for opposing forwards, while Coan, Wood, and Drager give S. Jones the luxury of rolling dependable players in every situation. In a league where games are often decided by a bounce or two, that kind of consistency becomes invaluable.
Clauser has proven he can give his team a chance to win every night, and with a structured group playing in front of him, the Nordiques won’t need to score five or six goals to win hockey games. Their identity is simple: stay disciplined, play smart, and let opponents make the mistakes. It isn’t always flashy, but it’s a formula that’s capable of producing championships.
X-Factor: Floreno
If Floreno can take another step offensively and complement Antioch and S. Jones, the Nordiques become even more difficult to contain.

Contender
Elite teams are built from the blue line out, and the Americans may have the league’s biggest difference-maker.

The Americans don’t need to convince anyone they’re a contender. When the draft wrapped up, one name immediately stood out: Wrubel. Widely regarded as one of the premier defensemen in Monday Night Lights, he changes the identity of a team the moment he steps on the ice. He defends, moves the puck, joins the rush, and makes everyone around him better.
What makes this roster intriguing, though, isn’t just one player. Femminineo built a lineup with balance throughout. Rutkowski and Larivee bring offensive ability, Francois has the skill to create opportunities in transition, and Lesner and Bauer give the Americans reliable depth that every championship-caliber team needs. If Powell settles in quickly between the pipes, this group won’t have many weaknesses.
The Americans also have something every successful locker room needs—personality. Crnkovich brings the kind of calm presence every player appreciates during a long season. While Tye and goose set the tone and keeps things loose. It’s a group that should enjoy playing together, and that chemistry often matters more than people realize.
The ceiling for this team is incredibly high. If the offense develops around Wrubel instead of relying on him to do everything, the Americans have enough talent to be playing for a championship when the season comes to an end.
X-Factor: Francois
The Americans know what they’ll get from Wrubel. If Francois consistently creates offense, they’ll become one of the league’s most balanced teams.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ GOLDEN SEALS
Contender
Never question Todd Otto’s draft in October. By February, it usually makes a lot more sense.

Every season, the same conversation takes place after the draft. People question Todd Otto’s picks, wondering why he passed on one player for another. Then the season starts, the Golden Seals are sitting near the top of the standings, and suddenly nobody is questioning the strategy anymore.
Todd has never been one to draft based on friendships or flashy names. His philosophy has always been simple: take the best player available and figure the rest out later. That’s exactly what this roster looks like. Eisenmenger, Young, and Tom Phillips provide a strong veteran foundation, while B. Antioch brings the defensive upside to change a game with one shift. There isn’t a lot of wasted value anywhere on this roster.
The supporting cast is what could make the difference. Kruso and Hartkop give the Seals dependable depth, while Batchelder is the type of player who could quietly become one of the better value picks of the draft. If those secondary pieces produce consistently, opponents won’t be able to focus all of their attention on the top line.
Keila has proven capable of stealing games in net, and that’s often all a balanced roster needs to stay in the championship hunt. The Golden Seals may not generate the preseason hype of some other contenders, but history says counting them out is usually a mistake.
X-Factor: Batchelder
If Batchelder develops into a dependable secondary scorer, the Golden Seals become one of the league’s deepest offensive teams.

No team will make you earn a win more than the Tigers.

The Tigers aren’t built to outskill every opponent—they’re built to outwork them. Judge has assembled a roster that reflects the way he approaches the game: competitive, physical, and willing to battle for every loose puck. If you leave a game against the Tigers thinking it was easy, Rick probably wasn’t in attendance.
Rick remains the heartbeat of the lineup. After another outstanding offensive season, he’ll once again be expected to drive the attack while setting the tone with his relentless style of play. Around him, veterans like Ratliff and Judge provide leadership, while Sikorsky and Ziraldo add the type of depth that keeps good teams competitive throughout a long season.
Then there’s Skillman. Every league has that player you love having on your team but hate playing against. His aggressive style occasionally lands him in the penalty box, but it also makes opponents think twice about every puck battle. That edge has become part of the Tigers’ identity.
If Riley delivers another steady season in goal, the Tigers have everything they need to compete with the league’s best. They may not always win the highlight reel, but they’ll win plenty of hockey games by sticking to what they do best.
X-Factor: Ziraldo
The Tigers know they’ll get production from Judge. If Ziraldo becomes a reliable contributor or steady Dman, this lineup gets significantly deeper.

⭐⭐⭐ WHALERS
Contender
The Whalers won’t overwhelm you with star power—they’ll beat you with structure.

Every season there seems to be one team that’s better than people expected, and the Whalers have all the ingredients to be that club. Hetes/Bin have quietly put together a roster that’s experienced, fundamentally sound, and built around players who understand how to play winning hockey.
Peso and Biliti provide offensive ability, while Sugar and Pete bring the type of dependable two-way play that wins close games. This isn’t a team that’s going to rely on one superstar to carry the load. Instead, they’ll look to wear teams down with smart decisions, consistent effort, and disciplined hockey.
No Whalers preview would be complete without mentioning Hetes, who somehow manages to turn every postgame conversation into a lesson on advanced analytics. Whether everyone agrees with him or not, his passion for the game is undeniable, and he brings a level of hockey knowledge that few can match. Expect Hetes to draw a penalty or two when you play this pesky whalers team.
Pangrazzi gives the Whalers confidence between the pipes, and if the offense can generate just enough support, this team has the potential to frustrate opponents all season long.
X-Factor: Simonelli
If Simonelli can provide consistent offense, the Whalers become much more than a difficult team to play against.

Don’t expect fireworks. Expect sixty minutes of hard, disciplined hockey.

The Scouts may not have generated the biggest headlines on draft night, but Cipps/RAllen once again built a team that reflects their coaching style. They’re disciplined, responsible, and perfectly comfortable winning ugly. If games become defensive battles late in the season, don’t be surprised if the Scouts are right in the middle of them.
Proctor gives the lineup an offensive threat capable of changing momentum, while veterans like Paulinski and Suokas provide the experience needed to navigate a long season. Pelot adds another reliable piece to the lineup, and Ryan Allen continues to be one of the league’s most respected teammates, bringing consistency both on and off the ice.
Then there’s Cipparone, better known around the league as “Weeble Wobble.” Somehow he always seems to stay on his skates, no matter how chaotic things become around him. It’s become one of those uniquely MNL traits that everyone has come to expect.
The biggest question for the Scouts won’t be their effort or their structure—those are givens. It’ll be whether they can generate enough offense against the league’s elite teams. If they do, they’ll surprise a lot of people this season.

The Scouts know they’ll defend. Pelot’s offensive production could determine just how high this team climbs in the standings.
