Pearcy Makes Reffing Debut

Byline: Viking Ice Arena

Place the date of October 5th in your Google calendars and hit the “annual occurrence” button to be reminded yearly when Brian “Trusted Voice” Pearcy donned the striped black and white ref sweater. Pearcy made his referee debut last night officiating the North Stars and Tigers game, a tough task facing blatherskite (look it up) Troy Otto. Sporting a Vape-like tracksuit pant set up and a volleyball whistle Pearcy became more comfortable as the game went on. “It started off a little rough” said gritty Tiger forward Mark Pelot “I mean the dude can barely skate without a stick to use as a tripod”. Positioning was in question most of the evening as Pearcy found himself entangled with players in the offensive zone. “I don’t even know where I’m supposed to be positioned as a defenseman let alone a ref” said Brian during a post game interview on the expanded Labatt Blue Party Deck. He received a lot of advice on the ice both solicited and unsolicited during the game. Pearcy was mentored by MNL ref Rick and both Otto brothers. “He did OK but he really needs to learn how to drop a puck” said Tyrone J. Otto. Both teams centermen shared those same concerns inside the faceoff circle. “I can only remember one decent drop the whole night” said Tiger middle man Andy Femm. Center’s Pistol Pete and Chris Pfister found the whole thing humorous. “We were basically having a sword fight at the dot every time he dropped the biscuit” said Pfister. “I’ve played hockey for 44 years and I have never seen a puck drop that ended up in the corner without ever being touched before” said Bin. You have to applaud and commend his effort to “give back” to MNL but it was hard to watch. “He looked like a newly birthed baby deer trying to stand up on it’s own for the first time” chuckled reigning Wes McCauley MNL Referee of the Year Brauny “but you have to admire his willingness to be out there”. Seriously, good job Trusted Voice! Wish we could hear a podcast about it!
