The Tigers staved off elimination Monday night over the Evil Empire with a 3-2 victory. A birth into the Stanley Keg Finals was within reach for the North Stars but a strong effort by the Tigers kept that from happening. “Everyone talks about backs against the wall… it’s not that. I just don’t like Troy and want to beat him” said skipper Jeff Skillman. With Andrew Hetes out with an undisclosed upper body injury, the Tigers called upon Rookie of the Year candidate Dylan Lesner to tend net. “I felt a little loosey and very goosey out there but we got the W” said goalie Lesner who went one and one on the night. Dylan displayed his unique style of goaltending last night with several skates into the corners to play the puck. “I thought he was trying to refill his Pink Whitney water bottle a couple times” lamented defenseman Ryan Allen.
The North Stars opened the scoring with a passing play from Sniper Otto to Doc Hollywood and held a 1-0 lead after the first period. Down a man after a penalty Bin tied the score with a bouncing slapshot through the wickets of Officer Riley. The Tigers took the lead by converting a two on one courtesy of sub Twisted Pfister. The game winning goal came from game MVP Crunk who deposited the puck over the shoulder of Riley. Crunk spoke of his goal… “I pretty much was just listening to Spicy Lettuce and doing everything he would tell me to do”.
Late in the game the North Stars were forced to pull their goalie for an extra attacker. “We imposed a 1-1-3 defense much like Liverpool for the last four minutes” said Hetes who won his coaching debut. The tactic worked well but did surrender a goal with only seconds remaining. “Sure we would have liked to not give up that last goal but the only thing that counts was the win” said veteran Nick Myers. The series will be determined next Monday in a classic Game 3 matchup. When asked for comment North Star centerman Pistol Pete declared “I guarantee we win next week!”
