Maroon Grinders Grab Tigers by the Tail

Byline: Viking Arena

Lead by the super second line of Peso, Old Man Eidt and Q-Tip, the mighty Maroons jumped out to an early and insurmountable lead against the fledgling Tigers in the 10:30 prime time spot Monday night which was aired locally on ESPN2 with commentary from Peyton and Eli Manning. Coming into the evening’s tilt the Maroons look like one of the league favorites while in stark contrast the Tigers were looking for their first win of the season. “Were not too worried right now” said sophomore GM Jeff Skillman, “we started the same way last season and ended up one game shy of the Keg”. The burgundy and french blue clad warriors quickly put three goals on the board past goalie sub Ryan Z before the spectators could find their seats in the sold out arena. “It was the start we were looking for” exclaimed DougE Fresh “and we just didn’t look back”. The first two Maroon goals fluttered by the netminder without even reaching the back of the net and left the Tigers gasping for air.

The friendly felines pounced back in the second stanza with a beautiful goal in the high slot by Shep. The defenceman glided through the middle ice and one-timed a beautiful pass from first rounder Andy Femm into the upper corner. Netting his first goal since the 2019 season, Shepard said “It was nice to score but I would happily trade that tally for a win”. The Tigers would draw closer with a goal on a two on one by Bin who used Kimmel as a decoy and whipped it past Pangrazzi. It was as close as the black and gold would get in the game.

All three second liners had goals for the Maroons including Q-Tip in the dirty area and a Peso snipe. But the goal of the night was manufactured by early season Dickie Award as Adam Oats Playmaker of the Year nominee Ryan “El-Passo” Monet who was cutting from the corner and unleashed a violently accurate pass across the goal mouth to a perfectly position Eidt. The old mad deftly redirected the sub-sonic pass into the gaping net. Onlookers were stunned by the brilliant set up and questioned the budding super star after the game on the Labatt Blue Party Deck. Responding to reporters and glowing with excitement Peso hearkened back on the brilliant play. “There wasn’t a person in Oakland County who thought I could make that play. Shit, I bet half of those people would have bet their houses on a toe-drag. But my game is evolving and I want people to know that Peso (1st person) is capable of doing special things”.

Special shout outs to some key MNL’ers this week. Welcome to the new Matt Taylor who instantly got his name on the scoresheet for the Whalers. J-Flo and AllanZ shall from now on be known as the Euro Twins as they are mirror images of each other. Soukas for a strong performance on D last night. Jumbo Joe Ellis who constantly positioned himself in prime scoring areas. Troy for minding his manors with the Zebra’s. Serda had a sick clapper from the slot for a goal. Sugar’s sweet open ice hip check on Femm was an absolute beauty reminiscent of Vladimir Konstantinov circa 1996. Chad for his speed. Tye for his new break out play to lounge at the far blue line while the North Stars try and get out of their own zone. Lastly, our referees did an excellent job following the guidance of the Ivory Tower to crack down on the stick work. There may be some cheap calls in the upcoming weeks but our new standard must be established (see Kimmel’s late game slash as an example).

Good Week Boys
