Byline: A Chilly Viking Arena
Monday evening pitted the Nordiques against the streaky North Stars. Both teams were looking for a victory and momentum to power their respective clubs into the palyoff picture. The Kings of the North have tinkered lately with their line up as many scouts have lauded their roster as predictable. “We have a new #1 line of Sikorski, Old Man Eidt and Twinkle Toes Vinande” said the brightest of all stars Troy Otto. “Those dudes have a combined age of 163 years so that’s a lot of experience to draw from”. The combination proved its worth by scoring on the first shift of the game and setting the tone. The Stars would add another to make it 2-0 and this reporter could almost see the life being taken from the Diques. “Yeah dog… we could have packed up our tent and gone home with our tail between our legs but Chris Taylor and the Drake weren’t gonna let that happen” said GM Panty Dropper. Super-Sub-Up Ivan don’t call me Drago netted two goals to tie the score. Receiving the third star of the game on the Labatt Blue Party Deck, Drago commented “I had a big cat collar to fill (big shoes to fill by replacing Charles Machi) and with that comes great responsibility”.
The game would turn controversial late into the third stanza with a Peso high stick to the grill of stand out defenseman Matt Lepoudre. Questioning the referee in the most respectful way possible, Peso was assessed an additional 10 minute misconduct penalty putting the North Stars on the power play in the waning moments. Through a pungent haze Ryan Monet reflected on the scene that led up to the game deciding goal. “I didn’t even swear at that asshole ref. Bin tried circumcising me earlier and doesn’t get a call then I inadvertently clip Poo Bear and I get called…Troy can bitch and whine all day and he doesn’t get anything! It’s bullshit man!”. The result would be a 5 on 4 advantage for the aging North Stars. With sustained pressure inside the baby blue zone the puck found its way to Lepoudre who fired a slap pass towards the net which was re-directed by Bin for the winner. “It was an ugly win but we’ll take it” said Bin who credited player of the game honors to goaltender Aaron Riley. “His rebound control was impeccable and he came up with key stops at critical times to get us this win”.
Questions remain for the management of the Diques organization… They have a frustrated superstar in Sugar, a bonafide first rounder in The Drake and size and grit in McShannock. Do they make a move at the trade deadline or stand pat?
