2020 has been the year of unpredictable events across the world and in our tiny little corner of it in the Monday Night Lights Hockey League. Ice Rinks have shuttered their doors, men have had their bones broken, and all of the Ottos made it to the finals (I shutter just thinking about it). But with all these events unfolding around us, something magical happened. A record had been shattered that very few people other than the brightest historians and sharpest players even noticed. With the first ever MNL Finals being completed at Troy Ice Arena, an old but very important record has finally been officially established. I’m talking, of course, about the 2018-2019 Nordiques record of being the Longest Reigning MNL Champions.
Shattering the previous record of 377 days by a whopping 96 days, the Nordiques (who also own the regular season points record) have firmly cemented themselves as the greatest team in MNL history. When asked for a quote, Hall of Fame GM Jeremy Drager stated, “We almost missed this historic event, but Peso “Toe-Drag” Monette has been watching the calendar like a hawk. When we hit 477, we knew it would be a record that would stand the test of time. This is truly an incredible experience. I cannot think of a more important thing to be talking about right now”
